NATIONWIDE DRIVE TO ENCOURAGE VOTER REGISTRATION

Voters are being urged to register to ensure they can vote at the next election.

The plea comes after the government recently launched a multi-million pound fund to encourage under-represented groups to register on the electoral register.

As part of a wider project to encourage greater engagement with the democratic process, the £4,200,000 Innovation Fund aims to educate 16 to 17 year olds to the fact they can register for the vote from the age of 16.

The Fund has been announced ahead of the introduction of Individual Electoral Registration next year which will require individuals to register themselves rather than receiving a household registration form.
