87 YEAR OLD RESIDENT AWARDED FOR SERVICES TO FOOTBALL

Last Monday a Long Eaton man was invited to a ceremony at Buckingham Palace to celebrate his voluntary work in football.

Harry Hardy has been refereeing for over 55 years and at the age of 87, still referees in the Long Eaton Sunday League every week.

The official was amongst a group of 150 who were presented with medals by Prince William and invited to lunch at the palace.


As part of the ceremony a football match was arranged on the grounds of Buckingham Palace against two of England's oldest football clubs; The Civil Service FC and Polytechnic FC, with the game ending 2-1 in Polytechnic FC's favour.
