CUTS TO HIT LONG EATON FIRE STATION

Under proposed plans to cut costs, Long Eaton fire station could face relocation and a phased reduction in full time staff to retained firefighters.

The plans are part of a major reorganisation of the fire service in a bid to save at least £4.4 million by 2017.

If the plans are approved, 19 fire stations across the county would be closed, 8 new stations would be created and 78 fire-fighter posts would be cut.

The proposals would also introduce 30 community safety officers who would work alongside firefighters to educate the public on fire safety.

The service has now launched a 10-week consultation to find out what people think of the plans.
