LONG EATON MILITAIRES TRIP TO CHINA

The Long Eaton Militaires recently enjoyed a trip to China to take part in the 2013 Shanghai Tourism Parade.

18 members travelled some 5500 miles to perform in parades throughout the week, the main stage arrangement being viewed via satellite across the world.

In return the band were treated to a number of free excursions , exploring the amazing sights of both the new and old Shanghai including a trip up the Oriental Pearl  – the third largest TV tower in the world having a glass floor suspended 273 floors in the air. Other excursions included the Jade Buddha Temple, the old Water Village, not to mention a fantastic evening river cruise along the Bund taking in the lights sights of night time Shanghai.

Band Secretary Julie Baldock said "we worked so hard to raise funds for this trip and would like to thank everyone who helped us achieve it. We were extremely well received and welcomed like celebrities by the general public!  The Organizing Committee were so impressed not only by our performances but our general attitude and respect for the people and culture, they have asked us to return in three years time!"

Bands from all over the world took part in the event and the Militaries have made not only a lasting impression on and friendship with the Chinese but with many nationalities including bands from Poland, Australia, Russia and America.
