BLUES GO THROUGH ON PENALTIES

                         NCEL LEAGUE CUP 3rd ROUND

BRIGHOUSE TOWN 2- 2 LONG EATON UNITED
(aet United win 9-10 on penalties)

Long Eaton United are through to the 4th Round of the League Cup after a dramatic win away at Brighouse Town on Tuesday evening. Town manager Paul Quinn rested nearly all of his first team regulars, only Luke Gibson made the starting line up from last Saturday’s game, but this did not seem to effect Town as they took the lead through Will Tolley on the hour. The game was all but over when Long Eaton’s new signing Jermaine Palmer scored in the 90th minute to take the tie into extra time. Blues took advantage of the extra half hour with Jemaine Palmer grabbing his second after 100 minutes. Moments later the home side hit back through James Hurtley to take the game to penalties. The players kept their cool and the score was 4-4 as Towns midfielder Joe Mitchell stepped up for the fifth but the Long Eaton goalkeeper Mason managed to deflect the ball over. The game was in Blues hands as Allen stepped up but the Town keeper saved to send the game into sudden death penalties. Both side scored with their next five before the Town keeper Brown had his effort saved. Gerome Palmer then scored the final penalty making it 9-10 overall and putting Long Eaton into the fourth round.
