FRIENDS OF SAWLEY PARK

Good News for Sawley Park.
Local community group, the Friends of Sawley Park, have good reason to celebrate. On Monday 10th March they received the news that Erewash Borough Council has pledged £50,000 towards new play equipment for SawleyPark, on Draycott Road in Sawley. The news coincided with a non-uniform day that both SawleyJunior School and Sawley Infant and Nursery School organised in support of the group’s ‘A Pound for a Park’ campaign. The non-uniform days raised £450.
The final piece of good news came when County and Borough Councillor for Sawley, Daniel Walton, presented the group with a cheque for £500 from his Community Leadership Fund. The Friends of Sawley Park was the inspiration of local parent Caroline Povey, and first met as a group in the autumn of 2013. Caroline said of the group’s aims:
“We formed the group because Sawley Park is right in the heart of the community, but at the moment has very little play value. We want to transform it into a fantastic family play area that children of all ages and abilities can enjoy.”
Friends of Sawley Park Chairperson Jackie Brewster said,
“We are absolutely delighted by all the support, advice and enthusiasm that Erewash Borough Council, the community and the local schools have shown for this project. The money we have raised so far has given us a fantastic head start, but we need to raise more. There will be lots of exciting fund-raising events organised by the Friends of Sawley Park over the coming months which we encourage local people to get involved in.”
The group are planning a Pamper Evening at Sawley Infant School on Friday 4th April, a Fun Day in the Park on Saturday 10th May, and a Sponsored Swim on 5th July. To find out more about the group’s activities and to get involved visit their Facebook page
