The Canal Society attended the Breaston Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday with their stand and attracted a lot of local interest in the work being undertaken in the local and surrounding area and the updated information boards that where on display that explained the route and future aims, all details are available on our web site;
Another working party attended at the Spondon Winding Hole, next to the Moon Public House, the aim was to clear the various piles of earth and stones that had been left due to poor weather at the end of last year when we cleared some tree roots.
We where finally able to get a digger on site to flatten the ground on the Saturday and a team of volunteers turned out in blazing sun on Sunday to hand clear the water that we have kept in situ to encourage the wild life on site and also to also clear a lot of the broken glass and litter from the site.
The next social meeting will be held at the Wilmott Arms in Borrowash on Tuesday 27th May, with a talk by Richard Stone on the history of the River Trent, meeting starts at p.m. and is £2.00 for members or £3.00 for non-members, every-one is welcome.
