Trading rules approved by Erewash Borough Council in February and which have now been implemented will not help the market say local stall holders. Established traders have told the Council that the local market is already struggling and that the new trading rules will deter new traders. One of the new conditions is that traders have to sign an agreement not to take more than 12 days off work within a 3 month period or risk having favourable rates withdrawn.
Catherine Atkinson told the Extra: "A lot of our market traders have told me they are angry and upset with the new rules. We have historic market places that I want to see grow and prosper. This means attracting more traders, not driving them away. Imposing new rules without consultation appears to be penalising our traders rather than giving them the support they need."
