MAN ARRESTED AFTER DERBY ROAD ATTACK

Traffic was disrupted in Long Eaton on Saturday morning after a man was attacked near the corner of Derby Road and College Street. The incident occurred at around 9am on Saturday, May 16th. The 35-year-old man sustained head injuries and a wound to his abdomen, which police believe may have been caused by a knife. The victim was treated at the Royal Derby Hospital but later discharged. The two offenders fled towards Derby Road Canal Bridge on foot. Police closed Derby Road in both directions between King Street and College Street and diversions were put into place. A nearby Convenience Foods store, on Derby Road, was closed following the incident while police officers searched the area. The road was re-opened at about 11am. A 20-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and he remains in custody, being questioned.
