CHOIR LEADER WANTED

The Rockabillies Music Centre
Westend Mills, Leopold Street, Long Eaton, NG10 4QD
Maternity Cover Choir Leader for the
Rockabillies Choir

The choir
The Rockabillies choir is an informal mixed singing group based in Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire. It was set up in April 2014 and we now have 18 members. The premise of the choir is to sing rock, pop, soul and disco, avoiding show tunes and traditional choral work. The choir members don’t need to read music or audition; all levels and abilities are welcome. The choir meets once a week on Wednesday evenings at 8pm until 9.30pm during term time.
Our repertoire
We now sing a cappella or with guitar or ukulele accompaniment, having decided to move away from singing to backing tracks. Our current repertoire is as follows: Uptown Funk – Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson, Happy – Pharrell Williams, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy – The Andrews Sisters, What’s Going On? – Four Non Blondes, Love Machine – Girls Aloud, The lion sleeps tonight – Solomon Linda, Can’t get you outta my head – Kylie , Manic Monday – The Bangles
Performances
We have sung at a variety of coffee mornings, Christmas fairs and concerts and we did our first Flash Mob in Asda Long Eaton at Christmas singing “Merry Christmas Everyone” by Slade in the fruit and veg section! We have 3 more performances planned before we break up for August including another Flash mob at Nottingham Castle’s 1940s knees up on bank holiday Monday.
The choir leader
Our current choir leader is going on maternity leave at the end of July and will be off until January 2016 at least. We are therefore looking for a new choir leader to start in September of this year. The choir are a very friendly, enthusiastic and fun group who are a joy to work with.
The role of the choir leader is:
to lead the choir in a fun, relaxed but structured session with varied vocal warm ups.
to work with the musical director and the choir in choosing suitable songs to sing.
to accompany yourself on a suitable instrument for rehearsals when necessary though the musical director has lead the guitar and ukulele accompaniment in the past.
to update the choir’s face book page with links to the songs and parts we are learning (or to email those members who don’t use face book)
to lead the choir in performances in the future.
to help the singers with their vocal technique and develop their singing voices.

The rate of pay is £40 for the 90 minute session.

(In the future I would like to start a childrens’ choir at Rockabillies so there is the potential to lead this new venture for the right applicant)
The closing date for this position is Friday 3rd July. Successful candidates will be invited to attend an interview and lead the choir on Wednesday July 8th for 15 minutes.
