Organised by the volunteers of the Long Eaton Community Carnival Association, planning is at an advanced stage for this year’s Long Eaton Carnival set to take place on Saturday, 18th June 2016. There’s still plenty of time for everyone in the the community to get involved in the annual spectacle, either in the Carnival Parade or at the Carnival Show at West Park. The theme for this year’s Grand Carnival Parade is “Things That Go Bump In The Night”. Jean Greenland, Parade Manager is looking forward to seeing the ghoulish creations that entrants come up with.
“The Carnival Parade Is one of the highlights of Carnival Day,” says Jean “and it's fun and easy to get involved either as a walking party, in a decorated vehicle or float.”
Information about how to apply is available on the carnival website, or by telephoning Jean on 07890 110 694.

In support of the parade, the Carnival Committee are once again inviting residents and businesses along the Parade route to decorate the front of their property with bunting, balloons and whatever else takes their fancy.
“We’ve definitely seen an increase in the number of people decorating their homes and businesses in the last few years,“ says Chief Marshall, Adrian Johnson, “it really adds to the Carnival atmosphere and looks fantastic.”

Planning for the event has been pretty much underway all year in anticipation of this old Long Eaton tradition, although as Chairman Pete Smith reports, this year has not been without its complications.
“This year we have had a couple of additional challenges to take into account, one of which was the discovery that the Aviva Women’s Tour Cycle Race is planned to pass through Long Eaton on the morning of the Carnival. We’re working closely with the race organisers to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum, but of course some delays will be inevitable as sections of road will be closed – firstly to allow the race to go through town and later on , for the Carnival Parade itself.”
Following the Parade, attention shifts to the Carnival Show on West Park, where a host of stalls, attractions and entertainments will run through the afternoon into the evening. In a change to recent years, both the Carnival Show and the Fair are relocating to the Bonfire Field in the middle of the park. As Site Manager, Rod Wetton, explains, “With three arenas, two music marquees and lots of other attractions, the Carnival Show has grown too big for the area we’ve previously used on West Park. Moving to the Bonfire Field will allow more space for people to enjoy the show and allow it to grow in years to come. There’s still time to book a stall on the showground to promote your business, community group or fundraise for charity; again details of how to apply can be found on the website, or by telephoning Wendy Parker-Cullen on 07938 619 297.
