A Long Eaton man involved in a head on collision on the A52 on March 5th died of multiple injuries due to acute alcohol intoxication. This was the verdict of Derby and Derbyshire Coroner's Court who returned a verdict of misadventure.
Gary Gladstone,56, of Mayfield Grove, Long Eaton, was returning from a wedding reception at the Risley Park Hotel. CCTV showed he was struggling to find reverse gear when leaving the car park. When he reached the roundabout at junction 25 of the M1 he turned right instead of left and drove the wrong way down the A52 running head on into a VW Beetle. Mr Gladstone was pronounced dead at the scene and the two people in the other car were left with "permanent life-changing injuries."
Toxicology results, taken as part of his post mortem examination, revealed he was more than three times over the limit.
