INQUEST VERDICT SUICIDE

An inquest at Derby and South Derbyshire Coroner's Court has ruled that a Long Eaton man had committed suicide. David Thompson, 60, of Brendon Way, Long Eaton, a former Royal Navy serviceman was found on a grass verge near the A50 after throwing himself from a bridge. The Court heard that Mr Thompson had become worried that he may have bowel cancer after visiting his GP on February 19th. His mother previously died from the disease. Two days later on February 21st Mr Thompson drove to a service station, in Willington. CCTV footage showed him park his car and walk towards the bridge. The police said it would not have been possible for him to fall, and that he had to climb over the barrier. The court ruled that Mr Thompson died from a thoracic aortic rupture and that he had taken his own life.
